If your tomato stain has had time to dry, you’ll need a bit more work to remove it. Start by working a few drops of liquid dish detergent into the stained area with your fingertips, and then rubbing it in gently. To complete the cleaning process, submerge the entire garment in cold water for about 30 minutes, and then launder as usual.
When dealing with fresh tomato stains, the goal is to avoid setting the stain in the fabric. To do this, immediately blot up as much of the tomato juice as possible with a paper towel or white cloth. Then, prepare a solution of warm water and liquid laundry detergent, and pour it directly over the stain. Rub the fabric together gently to work the solution into stain, and let it sit for five minutes. Finally, rinse the area thoroughly before laundering.
If you’d prefer to use natural cleaning solutions on your anorak, there are a few household ingredients that can help. Baking soda is a mild abrasive cleaner that will help loosen the tomato stain and absorb any remaining moisture. If you have one, white vinegar is also effective for removing tomato stains. To use it, add equal parts vinegar and warm water to a spray bottle, shake, and spritz the stained area. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
When it comes to treating tomato stains, quick action is key! The sooner you spot and treat the stain, the better chance you’ll have of avoiding a permanent reminder of that delicious slice of pizza.
