Step 1: Pre-treat with Cold Water

The first step to get rid of tomato stains is to pre-treat the area with cold water. This will help to stop the stain from setting in and ensure that it's more easily removable. Simply wet the area with cold water, using a soft cloth, and blot out any excess.

Step 2: Apply Mild Detergent

Once the area is wet, apply a mild detergent to the spot. Gently rub the detergent into fabric, then rinse off with cold water. You want to be gentle so as not to damage the fabric of the sweater.

Step 3: Soak in Hot Water

Now, fill a sink with hot water, making sure the temperature is not too hot for fabric. Add a capful of mild detergent to the water and soak sweater for 30 minutes. After this time, rinse area off with cold water and check to see if the stain has been removed.

Step 4: Repeat as Necessary

If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain has been fully removed. Once the tomato stain has been removed, wash the entire garment according to its care instructions to ensure that the fabric remains undamaged.
