Before you begin washing the garment, pre-treating will help loosen stain. Mix a little warm water with a teaspoon of liquid detergent and lightly dab the mixture onto stain. Let it sit for about five minutes so the detergent has time to work its magic. Once it is finished, blot the area with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue.
Next, turn your garment inside out before putting it in the washing machine. Select the cold-water setting and add your normal detergent. If you are washing by hand, dissolve the detergent in some warm water before submerging the garment. Gently agitate the fabric for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly. To ensure that all soap is removed, let the garment soak in a basin of clear, cold water. Once finished, press out any excess water with your hands.
Once the tomato stain is gone, hang the garment on a drying rack or clothesline to air dry. Avoid using hot water or dryer as this could set the stain into the fabric permanently. Additionally, avoid exposing the garment to direct sunlight as this can cause the colors to fade.
Tomato stains can be tricky to get out of activewear, but now you know that it can be done. With the three easy steps mentioned above, you can have your garment looking like new again in no time. Good luck!
