General Tips for Removing Tomato Sauce Stains from Venetian Lace

  • Act quickly – the sooner you start treating the stain, higher your chances are of removing it.
  • Gently blot (do not rub!) the stain with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove as much of the tomato sauce as possible.
  • Always test any cleaning products on an unseen area of the fabric before using on the stain.

Step One: Pre-treat the Stain

Mix one tablespoon of laundry detergent with two cups of warm water. Gently dab the stain with this solution. Be sure to not rub or use too much pressure so as to not damage the fabric. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Step Two: Rinse the Area

Rinse area by dabbing it with lukewarm water. Set aside.

Step Three: Soak the Stain

Create a solution with ¾ cup of white distilled vinegar, ¼ cup of ammonia, ½ cup of warm water, and one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Soak the stained area in solution for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, rinse the area with lukewarm water again.

Step Four: Repeat When Needed

Observe the area to see if the stain is removed. If not, repeat steps 1-3. You can also try a different method, such as soaking the stain in a mixture of three parts hydrogen peroxide and one part dish soap for 30 minutes.

Tips for Care and Maintenance of Venetian Lace

  • Hand wash Venetian lace whenever possible. Machine washing can cause the fabric to tear and fray quicker.
  • When machine washing, always use the delicate setting with cold water.
  • Do not use bleach or other harsh chemicals while laundering.
  • Do not wring out Venetian lace, as this will cause it to stretch and distort.
  • Always hang dry Venetian lace and never put it in a dryer.
