Assuming you have spotted the stain early, the first step is to gently blot at area with a clean, damp cloth to remove any excess sauce. If the stain has already dried, start by dampening it a bit before blotting. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area as this could further damage the fabric.

Once all of the excess sauce has been removed, make a paste using a 1:1 ratio of baking soda and white vinegar. Generously spread the paste over the stain and let sit for 20 minutes. Once the time is up, blot the area gently with a clean cloth to remove any remaining paste. If there are still traces of stained, repeat until the stain is completely gone.

Finally, spot clean area with a fabric cleaner made specifically for velvet. To test, apply the cleaner to an inconspicuous area first. Then, use a clean cloth to apply the cleaner to the affected area, making sure to rub in a circular motion. Allow the fabric to dry naturally and not with direct heat.

Now that you know how to remove tomato sauce stains from velvet, you can keep your favourite velvet item looking like new!
