It’s an all-too-familiar situation—you’re at a summer barbecue, having a great time, when the inevitable happens: ketchup or tomato sauce spills on your favorite pair of Vans. Not to worry! It might seem impossible, but we will show you how to clean these types of stains in no time.

The first thing you should do is to use a dry cloth or paper towel and blot the stain, soaking up as much as you can. This will reduce the amount of tomato sauce that is left on the shoe.
In a bowl, mix together one teaspoon of mild detergent, a tablespoon of white vinegar and two cups of warm water. You should avoid using harsh chemicals, as they may damage the material of your Vans.
Using a clean cloth or sponge, apply the cleaning mixture to the stained area. Gently rub in a circular motion to loosen the stain.
Rinse the area with hot water. Make sure all traces of the mixture have been removed, then pat the area with a dry cloth to remove residual moisture.
Allow the area to air dry completely. Do not put the shoes in dryer or use any artificial heat sources, as this can damage the material of the shoes.
