Before you attempt to clean stain, it’s important that you pre-treat it. Start by gently dabbing some mild detergent on the stain and letting it sit for five minutes. After the five minutes have passed, run a sink full of warm water and submerge underwear in it. Let it soak for about 10-15 minutes.
Once you’ve let the underwear soak and pre-treated the stain, go ahead and throw it into the washing machine—the key here is to use cold water to ensure that the stain doesn’t set in. You’ll want to use regular laundry detergent, but if your garment is particularly delicate or the stain is particularly tough, use a special soap designed for tough stains. Finally, throw in a color-safe bleach to make sure the stain comes out.
Dry your garment on lowest setting possible—this will help to prevent stain from setting into the fabric. Be sure to check care label on your garment to make sure that you don’t accidentally shrink it.
With the right cleaning supplies and a bit of elbow grease, you can make tomato sauce stains disappear from your underwear in no time. Just follow the steps outlined above and you’ll be good to go.
