Dabbing the stain with cold water or a paper towel is the first step. This will prevent the sauce from sinking deeper into the fabric and help make it easier to remove. Next, pretreat the stain with a prewash stain remover or a liquid detergent. Let it sit for several minutes before washing.

Use hot water to wash the shirt, as this helps break up the stain. Make sure to use a heavy-duty powder laundry detergent too. It’s best to avoid using bleach, which can discolor the fabric. For extra tough stains, you may need to use an enzyme-based cleaner.

Once item has been washed, check to make sure that the stain is gone. If not, repeat the prewashing, washing and drying steps until stain is gone. Be aware that some tomato stains may not come out when washed, in which case you may have to replace the shirt.

Finally, make sure to air dry your t-shirts instead of using a dryer. The heat from drying can set any remaining stains, making them harder to remove. With these tips, you should be able to keep your beloved t-shirts free from pesky tomato sauce stains.
