The first step in treating a tomato sauce stain is to blot up as much of the sauce as possible. Use a paper towel or clean cloth and gently press against the stain to soak up any excess liquid. Be sure not to rub the cloth or you may spread the stain further.
Once you’ve blotted up excess tomato sauce, it’s time to pre-treat the stain. Start by mixing a little laundry detergent with warm water in a bowl. Then use a soft bristled brush to work the mixture into the stained area, making sure to cover the stain completely. Allow the pre-treatment to sit for five minutes, then rinse it off with cool water.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, it’s time to wash the clothing. Place it in your washing machine and select an ordinary cycle using cold water. If the stain is particularly stubborn, you can repeat this step one more time.
Once the washing cycle is complete, take out the clothing and check to see if stain is still visible. If it is, you can try spot treating the stain with a mixture of oxygen bleach and hot water and then allowing it to sit for 20 minutes. After that, rinse off the solution and wash the item on a normal cycle once more.
With a bit of elbow grease and the right materials, it’s possible to remove even the most stubborn tomato sauce stains from Tommy Hilfiger clothing! Remember: always treat the stain as soon as possible for best results and consider spot treating it with pre-treatment and oxygen bleach if necessary.
