When it comes to camping, tomato sauce is one of the unavoidable messes. Whether you're packing it into sandwiches or smothering it over hot dogs - chances are, tomato sauce stains are going to end up on your tent and camping gear at some point. But don't worry! Tomato sauce stains can be easily cleaned and removed with a few simple steps.
The first step to removing tomato sauce from your tent and gear is to remove as much of the excess sauce as possible. This can be done by using a dry, absorbent cloth such as a rag or paper towel to blot away the sauce. Make sure not to rub the material too hard, as this can cause further staining.
Once the excess tomato sauce has been removed, pre-treat the stain with a mild detergent and warm water. Dip a clean cloth in solution and gently blot stained area until the stain starts to lift. Be sure to rinse cloth regularly while blotting so you don't spread the stain around.
After pre-treating the stain with detergent, put a little extra detergent directly onto the stain and leave it for 15 minutes or so. This will give the detergent enough time to penetrate fabric and break down the tomato sauce.
After the detergent has had time to work its magic, rinse the affected area with cold water. Again, use a gentle blotting motion to ensure that no further damage is done to the fabric.
If the stain remains, you may need to repeat steps 2 - 4 until it has been completely removed. It may take several attempts to remove stubborn stains.
Finally, air dry the tent or camping gear and check to make sure the stain is gone. If the stain has been successfully removed, your tent and camping gear should be good as new!
