When it comes to cleaning tomato sauce stains from tartan, you want to act fast before the stain has time to set into the fabric. Fortunately, with a few common household items, you can easily get rid of this type of stain.

What You'll Need

  • Cold water
  • Mild detergent or dishwashing liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Sponge
  • Clean cloths

Step-By-Step Guide

  1. Start by blotting the stain with a clean cloth and some cold water. Don’t rub or scrub the cloth on the stain as this could cause it to spread.
  2. Mix a solution of 1/4-cup of white vinegar and about 1/4-cup of mild detergent or dishwashing liquid in 1/2-gallon of cold water.
  3. Dampen a sponge in the solution and apply to the stained area.
  4. Gently rub the area with the sponge in a circular motion until the stain has been removed.
  5. Rinse the area thoroughly with cold water and then blot dry with a clean cloth.

With this simple guide, you should be able to easily remove a tomato sauce stain from a tartan garment or fabric. Be sure to launder the item as soon as possible after removing the stain to further prevent any residue from lingering in fabric.
