Using a clean white cloth, gently blot the stain to absorb as much of the sauce as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain—this will only spread it further and make it more difficult to clean.
Mix a few drops of mild liquid detergent with a cup of cold water. Dip a clean white cloth in solution and then sponge the stain with it. Allow the solution to remain on the fabric for up to 30 minutes.
Rinse the stained area with cold water. Run your fingers through the fabric to check that all traces of detergent have been removed.
If the stain remains, apply a laundry pre-treatment product to the affected area. Follow the instructions on package. When finished, rinse the product off the fabric.
Fill a sink with cold water and a few teaspoons of liquid detergent. Place the stained area of the fabric in the water and swish it around for about 10 minutes. When finished, rinse the fabric with cold water and let it air dry.
Inspect the fabric to make sure all of the tomato sauce has been removed. If there are any remaining stains, repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.
