Ingredients You'll Need

  • Warm water
  • Mild liquid detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Lemon juice
  • Cheesecloth

1. Soak Sweatshirt

Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of liquid detergent. Immerse the stained area of the sweatshirt and soak for 10 minutes. This helps to break down the tomato sauce and make it easier to remove.

2. Lift the Stain

After soaking, take sweatshirt out of basin and use a cheesecloth or clean rag to blot at the stain. Make sure to not rub, as this may spread the stain further.

3. Treat the Stain from the Inside

Turn the sweatshirt inside-out and use a cotton swab to apply white vinegar directly to the stain. Allow the vinegar to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse off with cold water.

4. Apply Baking Soda and Lemon Juice

In a bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the paste to stain and allow it to sit for 20 minutes before rinsing off with cold water.

5. Let the Sweatshirt Dry

After rinsing off baking soda and lemon juice mixture, lay sweatshirt flat to dry on a clean towel. Once the sweatshirt is completely dry, check to see if any of the stain remains. If so, repeat steps 2-4 until the stain has been removed.

6. Wash in Machine

Once the stain is removed, machine wash the sweatshirt according to care instructions. Tumble dry on low heat and enjoy your spotless sweatshirt!
