Immediately after the stain has occurred, it is important to remove as much tomatoe sauce as possible from surface of the stained area. Use a clean, dry cloth or paper towels to dab away the sauce. Do not rub or scrub at the stain, as this will only spread it and make it more difficult to remove.
Once the excess sauce has been removed, the next step is to pre-treat stain. Start by creating a paste using equal parts water and dish soap, then apply it to stain and allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes. After that, rinse with cold water and allow the stain to dry.
Next, wash the stained item in the washing machine. Select the coldest cycle possible and use a gentle detergent. Do not use bleach or fabric softener, as these can worsen the stain. If the stain is still visible after the wash, repeat steps 2 and 3.
Finally, lay the item flat to air dry. Avoid using a dryer, as the heat can cause the stain to set. Once completely dry, you can enjoy your freshly cleaned sweater!
