Tomato sauce stains on sundresses can be one of the most stubborn marks to remove. The red sauce does not come out in a wash cycle, and it may take multiple rounds of scrubbing for the stain to disappear. To make matters worse, tomato sauce often leaves behind an orange tinge.
To begin, you will need a few basic ingredients. These are detergent, baking soda, white vinegar, dishwashing liquid, and lukewarm water.
Begin by pre-treating the stain. Create a paste by mixing tablespoon of baking soda with one tablespoon of white vinegar. Apply the paste to the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Next, create another mixture using one cup of warm water, a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, and a teaspoon of detergent. Soak stain in this solution for 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water.
If the stain persists, soak the fabric in a bowl of white vinegar and warm water overnight. In the morning, rinse the fabric with cold water and machine wash as normal. For best results, use a color-safe detergent.
In general, it is important to act quickly when trying to remove tomato sauce stains from a sundress. The longer the stain sits on the fabric, the more likely it is that mark will be difficult to remove.
