Steps for Removing Tomato Sauce Stains from Suits

  1. Begin by scraping off as much of the sauce as possible with a butterknife.
  2. Blot the stain with cold water to help loosen it from the fabric.
  3. Create a paste using 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of water. Spread the mixture onto the stain and allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse area with cold water, blotting it until no more residue comes up.
  5. Soak the area in cold water with 1/2 cup of white vinegar for five minutes.
  6. Wash the area with cold water again and use a washcloth to help rub away the stain.
  7. Allow the area to air dry (do not use a hairdryer or any other heating device).
  8. If the stain is still present, repeat steps 3-7.

Additional Tips

  • Always pre-treat tomato sauce stains as soon as possible; the sooner you can begin to remove them, the better.
  • Never apply heat to a stain; this can set stain and make it harder to remove.
  • Always test any cleaning solution in an inconspicuous area of the garment before applying it to stain.
