Step 1: Blot the Excess Sauce

The first step to removing tomato sauce stains from spandex is to quickly blot the excess with a paper towel or a clean cloth. Doing this will help to stop the sauce from spreading further into the fibers of the spandex and make it easier to completely remove.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

Next, you can pretreat the stain to help loosen it. Use a prewash spray, laundry detergent, or a bar of laundry soap to help break down stain and make it easier to remove. Allow the pretreater to sit on the stain for at least 30 minutes before washing.

Step 3: Wash Item

Once you have pretreated the stain, the next step is to machine wash the item. Be sure to use cold water and a mild detergent. You may need to use a color-safe bleach if stain is particularly stubborn, but be sure to check the care label of your spandex before adding bleach.

Step 4: Hang Dry

When the washing cycle is complete, you can hang dry the item. Do not put the spandex in the dryer as the heat can set the stain and make it impossible to remove. Once dry, carefully inspect the spandex to make sure the stain has been removed.
