Start by loosening the stain with cold water. Blot the area gently to absorb some of the tomato sauce. Finish with a few drops of mild detergent or laundry pre-treater. Leave it on the spot for a few minutes before washing as usual.
If the tomato sauce stain is especially stubborn, a stronger solution might be necessary. Create a paste of baking soda and cold water and apply it to the stain. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse off with cold water. If there is still some residue, use a soft brush to scrub the area until stain is gone.
For really thick tomato sauce stains, combine equal parts salt and white vinegar, and dab the mixture onto the stain. Let it sits for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with cold water. Afterwards, wash fabric as usual.
Finally, if all else fails, try hydrogen peroxide. But be sure to check that your fabric is colorfast and bleachable first. Soak a cotton ball or paper towel with hydrogen peroxide and dab it onto the tomato sauce stain. Wait a few minutes, then rinse off with cold water and launder as usual.
With these simple steps, you'll have your sleep shirt looking like new in no time!
