Tomato sauce stains can be one of most stubborn marks to remove from clothing. Whether it's from a plate of spaghetti or from your kid's face at lunchtime, tomato sauce can quickly ruin the look of your outfit. Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to ensure that you restore your skirt to its original state.
As soon as a stain appears on your skirt, either blot or scrape off as much of tomato sauce as possible. Don't rub the stain - this will only spread the sauce and make it harder to remove. Instead, use a spoon or dull knife to gently lift away any excess sauce.
After scraping off the sauce, if there is still some residue, dap the stain with a clean cloth to absorb remaining sauce. The cloth should be clean and dry, and be sure not to scrub fabric; dab the stain gently.
To get rid of the last traces of the stain, rinse the fabric in cold water. Don't put it in the washing machine just yet - first test an inconspicuous area of the skirt to make sure the tomato sauce doesn't leave a permanent mark.
If stain is still visible on skirt after rinsing, pre-treat the fabric with a stain remover. Be sure to follow the directions on the bottle when using any type of stain remover.
Once the stain has been pre-treated, wash skirt according to the fabric care instructions. Be sure to use cold water and color-safe detergent. If the stain is still present after laundering, repeat Steps 1-4.
No matter what type of fabric your skirt is made from, with a little effort you can remove tomato sauce stains and keep your favorite skirt looking great.
