Removing the Stain

The first step to removing a tomato sauce stain from silk satin is to try to blot as much of the sauce off the fabric as possible. Use a clean white cloth or paper towel to dab at the stain, working from the outside of the stain inwards. Do not rub or scrub the stain, as this may cause the sauce to spread further or be rubbed deeper into the fabric.

Once you have blotted as much of stain as possible, mix a solution of one part dish soap and two parts cool water. Dip a clean white cloth into the solution and gently blot the stain. Do not rub or scrub, as this will damage the fabric. Once the stain has been blotted and appears to have been removed, rinse the affected area with cold water.

If stain remains, mix one tablespoon of liquid ammonia with half a cup of water and use a clean white cloth to gently scrub stain. Then rinse the area with cold water. If the stain persists, try soaking the fabric in a mixture of cold water and enzyme laundry detergent for up to an hour, then rinse with cold water.

If stain is still present after above treatments, it is advisable to take garment to a professional dry cleaner for cleaning.

Preventing Future Stains

To prevent future tomato sauce stains on your silk satin garments, try taking a few simple precautions. First, always be careful not to spill any food or drink on your clothing. Second, if you do spill something, try to blot as much of it as possible, being careful not to rub or scrub fabric. Third, it's a good idea to treat your clothes with a stain-repellent spray before wearing them, which will help to protect them from spills.
