Step 1: Blot the Stain Immediately

As soon as you notice a tomato sauce stain on your silk organza garment, it’s important to act quickly. Use a clean white towel or cloth to blot the affected area, absorbing as much of the liquid as you can. Don't rub the stain as this may cause it to spread and make the mark worse.

Step 2: Pre-Treat Stain

Before washing the garment, pre-treat the stain with a fabric-safe stain remover of your choice. Make sure to read the instructions carefully before using, and test cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area of the garment first. Apply the cleaner directly to the stain and use a toothbrush to gently agitate it until the stain starts to break apart. Then, let it sit for around ten minutes before continuing to the next step.

Step 3: Wash the Garment

Once you’ve pre-treated stain, it’s time to wash the garment. Fill up sink or a basin with lukewarm water and add a few drops of a delicate detergent specifically designed for silk garments. Gently stir the detergent into the water to create some foam, then place the garment in the water and let it soak for thirty minutes. After that, you can wind up the material and lightly massage the suds into the fabric. Careful not to be too rough though – it’s best to keep agitation to a minimum to avoid damaging the delicate fabric.

Step 4: Rinse the Garment

When the garment has been soaked and washed, it’s time to rinse it. Gently pour lukewarm water over the fabric until all the soap is removed. Pay close attention to the stained area and make sure the detergent isn't lingering in the fabric, as this could damage or discolor material.

Step 5: Air Dry the Garment

When you’ve washed and rinsed the garment, lay it flat on a towel and allow it to air-dry. Make sure the stained area is facing up so that stain can continue to oxidize and fade away. Once the garment is completely dry, check for any remaining stains and repeat the process if necessary.
