Steps for Removing Tomato Sauce Stains
- Act fast! The longer the stain sits, the harder it will be to remove, so try to tackle it immediately.
- Carefully blot the stain with a cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of tomato sauce as you can.
- Create a solution of 1 quart of water, 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Soak the stained area in this mixture for about 15 minutes.
- Use a toothbrush to lightly scrub stained area in a circular motion.
- Rinse the area with cold water and keep blotting until the stain is no longer visible.
- If the stain is still not gone after rinsing and blotting, pre-treat area with a stain remover.
- Once the stain is completely gone, toss the shirt in the wash with regular detergent and warm water.
Extra Tips
- As soon as you see a tomato sauce stain, don't hesitate to start treating it.
- Make sure you read the label and follow any special instructions for the fabric before pre-treating with a stain remover.
- Some materials perform better with cold water, so if you're attempting to remove a tomato sauce stain from something delicate, make sure you use cold water instead of warm.
