Steps for Removing Tomato Sauce Stains

  1. Act fast! The longer the stain sits, the harder it will be to remove, so try to tackle it immediately.
  2. Carefully blot the stain with a cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of tomato sauce as you can.
  3. Create a solution of 1 quart of water, 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Soak the stained area in this mixture for about 15 minutes.
  4. Use a toothbrush to lightly scrub stained area in a circular motion.
  5. Rinse the area with cold water and keep blotting until the stain is no longer visible.
  6. If the stain is still not gone after rinsing and blotting, pre-treat area with a stain remover.
  7. Once the stain is completely gone, toss the shirt in the wash with regular detergent and warm water.

Extra Tips

  • As soon as you see a tomato sauce stain, don't hesitate to start treating it.
  • Make sure you read the label and follow any special instructions for the fabric before pre-treating with a stain remover.
  • Some materials perform better with cold water, so if you're attempting to remove a tomato sauce stain from something delicate, make sure you use cold water instead of warm.
