Before you start, make sure to check the care label of the item to see if there are any special instructions regarding cleaning and handling. This is especially important for delicate fabrics like seersucker.

  • To clean stain, begin by blotting the area gently with a damp cloth to absorb as much of the sauce as possible.
  • Mix together one part white vinegar and two parts cold water in a bowl; this solution will help to break down the tomato sauce.
  • Dab the vinegar solution onto the stain and leave it to sit for 15 minutes.
  • Once the solution has had a chance to work, rub a mild detergent into the stain.
  • Using a fresh cloth, rinse away the detergent and vinegar solution with cold water. (Be careful not to scrub too hard or you may damage the fabric.)
  • Once the tomato sauce is gone, press the fabric between two towels to remove excess moisture.
  • Leave the fabric to air dry completely before wearing or using again.

Keep in mind that tomato sauce stains are particularly difficult to remove, so if you’re not satisfied with the results of your first attempt, try repeating the steps above as many times as necessary.
