When it comes to tomato sauce, there are two main types of stains you will have to deal with. Greasy stains need a degreasing agent whereas protein-based stains need enzymes. Fortunately, there are several options for cleaning either type of stain at home.
For greasy tomato sauce stains, you can use a liquid dish soap and lukewarm water. Make sure the soap does not contain lanolin or bleach. Start by wetting the stained area, then add a few drops of dish soap to the wet spot. Gently work the soap into the fabric with a soft toothbrush. Blot stain with a clean towel and rinse off. If the stain remains, apply a solution of lukewarm water and a teaspoon of enzyme detergent. Work this into the fabric, let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat if necessary.
For protein-based tomato sauce stains, you can use an enzyme detergent such as borax or oxygen bleach. Start by mixing 1 teaspoon of the product into a cup of warm water. Apply the solution to the stained area and let it sit for 15 minutes. Next, rinse solution off with lukewarm water. If the stain remains, apply a paste of enzyme detergent mixed with water directly to the stain. Let this sit for 30 minutes before washing your robe in the washing machine.
With a few simple steps, you can easily remove tomato sauce stains from your robes. When it comes to tackling these tough stains, the key is to act fast and use the right ingredients.
