To get started, you’ll need to follow a few steps:

  • Gently dab away as much of the excess sauce as possible with a clean towel or sponge. Don’t rub it — it may spread the stain further instead.
  • Mix one part laundry detergent with two parts cold water in a bowl to create a cleaning solution. Avoid using hot water — it could set the stain.
  • Soak the stain with the cleaning solution and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • Use a clean cloth to gently scrub the stained area in a circular motion. Avoid rubbing too hard.
  • Rinse the area with cold water until all of the soap has been removed.
  • Toss the raincoat into washing machine on a gentle cycle with a scoop of detergent.
  • When the cycle has finished, hang raincoat to air dry and check for any remaining stains.

By following these instructions, you should be able to remove even stubborn tomato sauce stains from your raincoat. A bit of effort and patience can help you save both time and money in the long run.
