The first thing you need to do is blot away as much of stain as possible with a damp cloth. Don't rub the stain, as this may spread it further. Once the majority of sauce is gone, create a mixture of one part dishwashing liquid, one part baking soda and two parts water.
Using a clean cloth, apply the solution to stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, rinse the area with cold water and blot it dry with a clean cloth. Repeat this process until the stain has disappeared.
Leather purses require special care when cleaning. To remove stain, mix one part white vinegar with three parts cream of tartar to form a paste. Apply the paste to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Once the time has passed, wipe away mixture and rinse the area with a cloth dampened in warm water.
For tougher stains, you may need to apply a store-bought leather cleaner to the area. Follow directions on the bottle, and test the cleaner on a small, hidden area of the purse before attempting to remove the stain.
To reduce the risk of future spills, consider purchasing a purse that's easy to spot clean. Look for a purse with a washable cover or a spill-proof liner inside. Though these won't prevent all messes, they can make them easier to clean up and reduce the chances of having to deep-clean the entire bag.
