When you first notice a tomato sauce stain on your polo shirt, your first instinct may be to scrub at it. Resist this urge, as this could make matters worse. Instead, start by blotting the stain with a clean cloth and cold water. Follow this up with a scoop of laundry detergent and let it sit for around 10 minutes.
After giving the detergent time to do its job, rinse area with cold water. Then, take your clean cloth and gently blot the area until the remaining detergent is removed.
If the stain persists, rinse the clothing item again and repeat steps one and two. Then, if you still don’t see any results, try soaking the stain in white vinegar for 5 minutes, followed by a wash cycle with bleach.
Once you’ve completed the wash cycle, hang dry the item on an indoor drying rack or outside in direct sunlight. Do not place in a dryer, as this could set stain in the fabric and make it even more difficult to remove.
