Step 1: Blotting

If you catch tomato sauce stain quickly after it appears, you will have an easier time removing it. Start by blotting stain with a cloth or paper towel to absorb as much liquid as possible. Do not rub! Rubbing the stain can make it worse.

Step 2: Pre-Treating

Mix a solution of warm water and liquid detergent. Gently dab the solution onto the stain and let it sit for about 20 minutes. This will penetrate and loosen the stain from the fabric.

Step 3: Washing

Place the item into the washing machine. Add some liquid detergent to the load and set the temperature to cold. Wash until the cycle is complete.

Step 4: Check & Dry

Once cycle is finished, check the pillow to make sure stain is gone. If not, repeat steps 2-3 before moving onto drying. Dry the pillow in the dryer with no heat setting or air dry outdoors.

Additional Tips

  • Always test a patch of fabric prior to using any cleaning product or method, to make sure it won't damage fabric.
  • If the stain is still present after washing, you can try spot treating with diluted bleach.
  • Do not overstuff the washing machine when washing your pillows as this will prevent proper agitation of the laundry.
