Peau de soie is a beautiful, luxurious fabric. With its low luster, matte finish, and sheer look, it's perfect for clothing, curtains, cushion covers and more. But when a tomato sauce spill happens, it can be a disaster.
The good news is that with the right approach and cleaning products, you can easily beat the dreaded tomato sauce stains from peau de soie fabric.
When dealing with tomato sauce stains, the key to success is speed. The sooner you act, the better your chances of success. Immediately blot the stain using an absorbent cloth or paper towel. Don’t scrub or rub as this will just spread the stain further.
Carefully scrape away any excess tomato sauce with a spoon; this will help prevent it from getting absorbed into the fabric. This should be done gently so as not to damage the fabric.
Mix one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent (a mild one, free of chlorine and bleach), one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water in a bowl. Use a clean white cloth or sponge and dip it in the cleaning solution. Gently dab the stained area, working from outside inwards to avoid spreading stain. Let the pre-treatment work on the stain for 10 minutes.
Rinse out the cleaning solution with cold, running water. Make sure to use cold water only to avoid setting stain further into the fibers. Then, launder the fabric as normal, following the directions on the care label for the best results.
Once the laundry cycle is complete, check the garment for remaining stains. If any are present, repeat steps two to four before drying the garment.
As long as you act quickly and follow above steps, you can easily rid your peau de soie fabric of unsightly tomato sauce stains. Good luck and happy cleaning!
