Step One: Blot the Stained Area

First and foremost, if the stain is still wet, you will need to blot the affected area with a paper towel or some other absorbent material. You should repeat this until you have removed as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stained area as this may cause the stain to spread further and make it much more difficult to remove.

Step Two: Apply Detergent

Once you have blotted up most of the tomato sauce, take a small amount of laundry detergent and apply it directly to the stain. If you do not have laundry detergent, any mild dish soap will work as an alternative.

Step Three: Rinse and Repeat

Soak a soft cloth in lukewarm water and use it to gently rub the detergent into the stain. Ensure that you are only applying light pressure and not rubbing too vigorously. Once you have finished, rinse the area thoroughly with clean water.

Step Four: Let Air Dry

The final step is to let affected area air dry. Do not attempt to speed up the process by using a blow dryer or any other artificial heating device as this could cause additional damage.
