When it comes to tomato sauce stains on muslin, time is of the essence. If the stain has dried, gently wet it with cold or lukewarm water. Then, let the fabric soak for five minutes.
After soaking, use a standard liquid dish detergent that does not contain chlorine bleach. Squirt three to four drops onto the stain and lather them up with a clean white cloth. Rub the area gently in a circular motion, being careful not to rub too hard.
Thoroughly rinse the garment with cold water to make sure all the residue from the dish detergent is gone. Be sure to repeat this step until no more suds appear.
If stain is still visible, repeat previous steps a few times. If the stain still persists after repeated attempts, use an enzyme-based cleaner specifically formulated for stubborn stains. Follow the instructions on the bottle.
Finally, dry the garment outdoors or indoors, away from direct contact with any heat source such as radiators, blowers, etc. Once completely dry, the stain should be gone.
