Removing tomato sauce stains from mohair can be done in just a few simple steps. First, blot the affected area with a clean white cloth. This helps to soak up as much of the sauce as possible, as well as any of its pigment or color.
Next, mix a solution of one quart of warm water, two tablespoons of dishwashing detergent, and one tablespoon of white vinegar. Gently dab stained area with the solution, working from the outside of the stain towards the center. This helps to prevent stain from spreading.
Once the stain has been completely soaked up by the solution, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water. Blot the area dry with a clean white cloth, being careful not to rub the fabric. Finally, dry the area with a hair dryer on the low setting, or lay the fabric out to air dry overnight.
If the stain is still visible after following these steps, try repeating the process. Alternatively, you can try removing the stain with a mild bleach solution. Before using any bleach product, it’s important to always test it on an inconspicuous area of the mohair first.
If all else fails, consider taking your garment to a professional dry cleaner. Professional cleaners are trained to handle tough, deeply set stains like tomato sauce from delicate fabrics like mohair. However, be sure to mention to your cleaner that item is mohair so that they use a gentler cleaning agent.
With these tips, you should be able to keep your mohair looking great despite any tomato sauce mishaps. Good luck!
