Steps for Removing Tomato Sauce Stains from Mesh Clothing

  1. Act fast and rinse cloth with cold water. Soak stained area in cold water for several minutes to remove as much of the tomato sauce as possible.
  2. Apply liquid detergent. Apply a small amount directly to stain and gently work into the fabric using a soft cloth or sponge.
  3. Rinse the stain thoroughly. Rinse the detergent and tomato sauce out with cool water until the water runs clear.
  4. Treat remaining stain with vinegar and water. Make a solution of equal parts vinegar and cold water then apply to the stain and work into the fabric.
  5. Wash in washing machine. Wash the item in the washing machine on gentle cycle with cold water.
  6. Check stain before drying. Check the stain to make sure it has been completely removed before putting the item in the dryer.

Prevention Tips

  • Consider pre-treating your clothing with a stain remover before wearing.
  • If possible, avoid wearing mesh when eating tomato-based sauces, soups, and other messier foods. This will help reduce the chance of staining.
