Steps to Clean Tomato Sauce Stains

  1. Blot excess sauce with a paper towel. Try to dab it up before it can settle into the fabric.
  2. Sprinkle the affected area of jacket with baking soda to absorb remaining moisture.
  3. Mix a tablespoon of liquid dish soap with two cups of warm water.
  4. Using a clean cloth, dab the soapy water onto the stained area. Work in a circular motion.
  5. Rinse by dabbing the area with cold water and a clean cloth.
  6. Mix one part vinegar with one part cold water in a bowl.
  7. Soak a clean cloth in the solution and dab the stained area. Blot with a dry cloth.
  8. If the stain persists, place a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth and dab the area. Blot with a dry cloth.
  9. Let it air-dry.

Tips for Removing Tomato Sauce Stains

  • Always try to remove the stain as soon as possible. The longer sauce sits, harder it is to get out.
  • Treat the stain more than once if necessary.
  • Be sure to test any cleaners on a small, hidden area of jacket before applying it to the stain.
  • Be patient, as removing tomato sauce stains from jackets can take some time.
