Before You Begin
- Check the care instructions tag on your clothing item. Gently clean items that are labeled dry-clean only.
- If there was grease involved with the tomato stain, use a pre-treatment solution that contains enzymes. This may help break up the stain before you begin washing.
- Be aware of the type of detergent you use. Skip the powdered detergent and opt for a liquid detergent, as it will help disperse the oils around the stain without dulling the colors in fabric.
Cleaning Instructions
- If the stain is still wet, blot it with a cloth or paper towel. Do not rub the stain, as this may cause the tomato sauce to spread.
- Wash the stained area in cold water and a small amount of laundry detergent, directly on the stain. Pay close attention to the type of detergent to avoid discoloring the fabrics.
- If the stain persists after washing, apply a small amount of laundry stain remover directly to the stain. Rinse garment with cold water to rinse residue.
- Rinse the garment with cold running water. Determine if the stain has been completely removed. If not, repeat the steps above until the stain is gone.
- If necessary, put the item in washing machine with laundry detergent that is safe for the type of fabric. Check care label to make sure you’re selecting right temperature setting.
- Dry clothing item according to the care label instructions.
