Instructions
- Start by checking the label on your headband for cleaning instructions. Some fabrics respond better to certain cleaning agents, so it’s important to know what type of fabric you’re dealing with before proceeding.
- Mix a solution of 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap and 1 cup of room temperature water. Dip a toothbrush in the mixture and gently scrub the stain.
- Soak stained area of your headband in the mixture for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cold water.
- If the stain remains, mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water. Place stained area of your headband in the mixture and let it soak for 30 minutes. Rinse off with cold water.
- If the stain persists, mix 1 tablespoon of borax with 1 tablespoon of hot water. Apply the paste directly onto the stain and let it sit overnight. Rinse off the next morning.
- If all else fails, take your headband to dry cleaner and ask them to use a spot treatment specifically made for tomato sauce stains.
Tips
- Act quickly after noticing the stain as fresh stains are easier to remove than old stains.
- Don’t put your headband in the dryer, wash it in machine or iron it in an attempt to remove the stain. Doing so could cause stain to set permanently.
Warnings
- Always test the cleaning solution in a hidden area first to make sure it doesn’t damage the fabric.
