Method 1: Use Sunlight and Mild Detergent

  • Soak stained area in a sink filled with cold water.
  • Mix 3 tablespoons of mild laundry detergent with warm water.
  • Rub mixture on the stained area using a soft bristled brush.
  • Rinse stained area thoroughly with clean cold water.
  • Place the hat outside in the sun for several hours.

Method 2: Dab Vinegar and Baking Soda

  • Mix equal parts vinegar and baking soda until it creates a paste.
  • Dab the paste onto the tomato sauce stains.
  • Let the paste sit for 10 minutes.
  • Rinse the stained area with clean cold water.
  • Place the hat outside in the sun for several hours to dry.

Method 3: Use Alcohol

  • Soak the stained area with rubbing alcohol.
  • Wait 5 minutes.
  • Blot away the alcohol with a clean cloth.
  • Repeat until the stain is no longer visible.
  • Place the hat outside in the sun for several hours to dry.

Additional Tips

  • Always test these methods on an inconspicuous part of the hat before attempting them on stain.
  • Avoid overwetting the fabric as this would cause the protein from the tomatoes to set into fibers.
  • If the stain remains after you utilize one of these methods, try repeating same method again.
