Method 1: Use Laundry Detergent

For smaller stains, using laundry detergent can be enough to get rid of the stain. To do this:

  • Mix a teaspoon of laundry detergent with two cups of warm water
  • Dip a clean cloth in the solution and dab the stained area
  • Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing the area with clean water
  • Air-dry the bag completely

Method 2: Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is great for getting out tough stains. For this method:

  • Mix one part rubbing alcohol with one part water
  • Using a clean cloth, dab the solution onto the stain and continue dabbing until the stain fades away
  • Let the area dry before repeating the process if necessary

Method 3: Salt and Vinegar Solution

A salt and vinegar solution can also be used to tackle tomato sauce stains. To do this:

  • Combine 1/2 teaspoon of salt with 1/2 cup of white vinegar
  • Dab the mixture onto the stain and let it sit for about 10 minutes
  • Using a dry cloth, blot the area until most of solution is absorbed
  • Repeat process until the stain disappears

Preventative Measures

Of course, the best way to deal with tomato sauce stains is to try your best to avoid them in the first place. To do this:

  • Always keep a napkin or cloth handy when eating
  • If you're eating something especially saucy, it's best to remove the handbag or purse and set it aside
  • It's also a good idea to invest in a protective spray that can help keep your handbag or purse Stain free
