Step 1: Blot the Stain

As soon as possible, start blotting the stain with an absorbent towel. Take care to only press lightly onto the fabric; scrubbing or rubbing too harshly can spread the stain further.

Step 2: Treat with Detergent

Mix some water and liquid detergent in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into the detergent solution and then gently dab it on the affected area. Continue doing this until the entire stain is covered. Don't scrub the fabric, as this could make the stain worse.

Step 3: Rinse & Repeat

Once the detergent has been applied, rinse the material with cold water. Do this several times, ensuring that the detergent is fully washed off the fabric. Finally, sponge the material with a wet cloth and blot it dry.

Step 4: Let the Air Do Its Job

Allow the material to air dry by hanging it outside or airing in direct sunlight. This will help to remove any remaining stubborn stains and will also help prevent them from setting in.
