As soon as you notice a tomato sauce stain, carefully blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove as much of the sauce as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain, as this can cause it to spread or set further into the material.
Once you have absorbed as much of the sauce as you can, treat the stain with a gentle detergent. Gently massage detergent into stain, being careful not to rub or scrub the fabric. After a few minutes, rinse the detergent off with cold water. If some of the sauce remains, repeat the process.
If the stain persists, try a mixture of liquid dishwashing soap and oxygen-based bleach. Mix together equal parts of each and apply to the stain. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water.
Finally, put clothing in the washing machine on a delicate cycle using the coldest water possible. Check stain before putting the clothing in the dryer; if it is still present, repeat the above steps before drying.
No one wants to deal with tomato sauce stains on their formalwear, but with a bit of elbow grease and some of the right supplies, it doesn’t have to be a disaster. Follow the steps outlined above to effectively remove tomato sauce stains from clothing and restore your outfit back to its original glory.
