Step One: Start by Blotting the Stain

The first step in tackling tomato sauce stains from fabric is to blot away as much of the excess wetness as possible. Gently pat the stain with a damp cloth or paper towel, making sure you don’t rub or spread the stain further.

Step Two: Apply an Appropriate Cleaning Solution

Once you’ve blotted the stain, apply a suitable cleaning solution to the affected area. Always remember to check the label of garment you’re cleaning, and to use a cleaning solution that won’t damage it.

If your garment is machine-washable, dish soap is often the best choice. If it needs to be hand-washed, try a gentle detergent made especially for delicates. You could also use a multi-surface cleaner or an enzyme-based spot remover.

Step Three: Soak the Garment

Soak the garment in the cleaning solution for at least 15 minutes. This will give the cleaning solution time to loosen the tomato sauce and make it easier to remove the stain.

Step Four: Rinse, Wash and Dry

After soaking, rinse the garment under cold running water to remove the cleaning solution. Then wash garment in the washing machine (if appropriate) or lather up and clean by hand. Don’t forget to check the garment’s care label before you begin. Finally, tumble dry the garment on a low heat setting.

Follow these simple steps and you’ll soon have tomato sauce stains removed from your favourite crop top – easy peasy!
