Step 1: Blot Stain with a Damp Paper Towel or Cloth

As soon as possible after the stain occurs, start blotting the area with a damp paper towel or cloth. This will help to absorb some of the tomato sauce before it sets into the fabric.

Step 2: Make a Paste with Baking Soda and Water

Create a paste by mixing together equal parts of baking soda and water. Spread this paste onto the tomato sauce stain. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Step 3: Wash with Detergent

If the stain still remains, launder the dress according to care instructions, using the hottest water that is safe for the fabric. If the water must be cooler than normal, add 1 cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle to boost cleaning power. After laundering, allow the dress to air dry.
