Things You’ll Need
- Dishwashing liquid
- A sponge
- White vinegar
- Cold water
Steps
- Start by blotting the tomato sauce stain with a clean and dry cloth to remove as much of it as possible. Do not rub or scrub the stain as this could end up spreading the stain further.
- Mix a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with warm water in a bowl. Once it starts foaming, dip a clean sponge into the mixture and gently dab the tomato sauce stain with it.
- Now rinse off the soap solution with cold water. This should fade the stain slightly.
- For tougher stains, mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water in a bowl. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and dab it onto the stain. After about 2-3 minutes, rinse the garment with cold water.
- Finally, air-dry the article of clothing and inspect the stain to check if it is still visible. If it is, repeat steps 2 and 4 until the stain has been completely erased.
Tips
- It is best to act fast when treating a tomato sauce stain. The longer it's left to soak in, the harder it will be to remove.
- Always remember to test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous part of fabric first to ensure that it doesn't damage the color or texture.
- If you don't have white vinegar, you can also use lemon juice or salt solution (1 tablespoon of salt dissolved in a cup of cold water) to treat the stain.
