Tomato sauce can be the perfect addition to many meals but it can also be extremely messy if it gets on your clothes. Tomato sauce is a red dye which makes it especially difficult to remove from fabrics, especially if the stain is fresh or has been there for a while. Fortunately, there are several simple ways you can tackle tomato sauce stains from your bottoms.

Step 1: Scrape Off Any Excess Sauce

The first step in removing tomato sauce stains from your bottoms is to scrape away any excess sauce before treating the stain. Gently scrape away any dried sauce with a dull knife, being careful not to spread the stain. You can also use a spoon or another dull object, such as back of a butter knife.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Once you've scraped off any excess sauce, it's time to pre-treat the stain. Use a laundry pretreatment product designed to remove stubborn stains - these can be found in most supermarkets. Follow the product instructions and apply a generous amount of the product directly on stained area. Once you've applied the pre-treatment, allow it to sit for a few minutes - this will help it work its magic and break down tomato sauce stain.

Step 3: Wash the Item

Once you've pre-treated stain, it's time to throw your bottoms in the wash. Be sure to follow the care label instructions and use the correct water temperature and washing cycle. When selecting a detergent, choose a product that is designed to effectively remove stains, and don't forget to add an extra dose of detergent to help break down the stain.

Step 4: Check the Stain

Once your bottoms have gone through the washing cycle, check stain to see if it is still visible. If it is, repeat steps 2 and 3 until stain has completely disappeared.

Step 5: Dry the Item

Finally, once all the tomato sauce stains have been removed, dry your bottoms according to the care label instructions. Never place an item that is stained with tomato sauce in the dryer, as the heat will cause the stain to set.

With these simple steps, you'll be able to remove even toughest tomato sauce stains from your bottoms.
