Start by taking a butter knife and gently scraping off any excess tar from the surface of the wrap dress. Don’t dig too deep — you don’t want to damage the fabric. Make sure to collect the scrapings on a paper towel or other absorbent material so they don’t spread.
Head to your local store for a specialized product that’s specifically designed to remove tar stains. Apply the product to the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water.
After pretreating with the specialized product, launder your wrap dress as usual according to its care label. It’s important to use a cold wash cycle whenever necessary, as hot water could cause the stain to set further into the fabric.
If the tar stain isn’t completely removed after laundering, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is gone. You may need to use a stronger cleaning product, such as bleach-based pre-soak.
Cleaning tar stains off your wrap dress isn’t the most fun activity, but with these steps, you can do it quickly and efficiently. Have any questions? Check out the FAQ section below for more details.
