You will need the following supplies to clean tar stain from wallpaper:
Mix together equal parts cornstarch and mild dish soap to create a thick paste. You may need to adjust amounts of cornstarch or dish soap to create a paste that's easy to spread. Once you have the right consistency, spread the paste onto a clean piece of cloth.
Gently dab the paste-covered cloth onto the tar stain. Rub cloth over the stain in a circular motion until it has been fully covered. Allow the paste to sit on the stain for several hours or overnight to give it time to work.
Use a clean cloth dampened with warm water to rub the paste away from the wallpaper. Continue rubbing until all of the paste is removed, as well as the tar stain.
If the tar stain persists after the first attempt, apply another layer of paste and let it sit for a few more hours. Repeat this process until the tar stain is completely gone.
