What You'll Need

  • A soft-bristled brush
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Laundry detergent
  • Cotton swabs
  • Paper towels

Instructions

  1. Brush the stain gently with a soft-bristled brush in order to remove any loose particles.
  2. Pour some rubbing alcohol onto a cotton swab and dab it onto stain. Be very careful not to saturate the fabric as this can cause further damage.
  3. Place a paper towel over stained area and press down lightly. This will help to draw out tar. You may need to repeat this step a few times.
  4. Soak the fabric in a mixture of laundry detergent and water for about half an hour.
  5. Rinse out the fabric with cold water and lay it flat to dry.

Tips and Tricks

  • If tar stain is still visible after following the instructions above, you may need to repeat the process again.
  • It's important to be gentle with the fabric so that you don't cause any unnecessary damage.
  • When it comes to cleaning tar stains, prevention is better than cure. Try to avoid getting tar on your Venetian lace in first place.
