Tar stains on umbrellas are particularly tricky to remove. This is because of their waterproof nature. The good news is, however, that there are some simple methods you can use to clean tar stains off your umbrella.
The first step in cleaning tar stains from an umbrella is to soak stained area in warm water and liquid laundry detergent. Allow it to sit for about 15 minutes.
After soaking, use a soft brush (such as a toothbrush) to gently scrub the stained area. Be sure not to apply too much pressure, as this could damage the fabric of the umbrella.
Once the stain has been scrubbed, rinse the detergent off the umbrella with clean water. This will help to remove any remaining tar residue on the umbrella.
If the tar stain persists, you may need to try an additional method. White vinegar is known to be effective at removing stubborn tar stains. To use, simply dampen a non-abrasive cleaning cloth with white vinegar and use it to dab the stained area. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with clean water.
