What You Need

  • Fresh dishwashing liquid (not bleach)
  • White vinegar
  • Paper towels
  • Soft toothbrush

Instructions

  1. Mix 2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid with ¼ cup of white vinegar.
  2. Soak a paper towel in the mixture and gently dab tar stain on the twill fabric.
  3. Allow the solution to sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Gently rub the affected area with a soft toothbrush to loosen up tar residue.
  5. Rinse the area with cold water.
  6. Repeat as needed until the stain is completely removed.

Precautions

  • Never scrub the stain vigorously as it can damage the fabric more.
  • Never use hot water as it can cause the stain to set into fabric.
  • Test a small area of fabric first to make sure the solution does not affect the material.
  • Do not tumble dry the fabric before the stain is removed as this may set the stain permanently.
