The first step in removing tar from tussah silk is to scrape off any excess tar that may be on the fabric. Use a plastic scraper or butter knife to gently scrape off as much of tar as possible. Be careful not to scrape too hard, as this could damage fabric of the tussah silk.
Once you have scraped away any excess tar, you will need to apply a stain remover. A good option is a non-toxic, oil-based stain remover such as citrus oil. Simply apply a few drops of the product onto the stained area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. This will help to loosen the tar from the fabric.
After stain remover has had time to work its magic, you can start wiping away the tar. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to gently wipe the stained area until tar has been removed. If the tar is still not coming off, repeat the previous steps until the tar is completely removed.
Once the tar has been removed from tussah silk, it's time to rinse fabric with cold water. This will also help to remove any remaining traces of stain remover as well as help to ensure that all of the tar is gone. After rinsing, lay tussah silk flat on a towel and allow it to air dry.
Tar stains can be stubborn, but with right approach, you can easily get rid of them from tussah silk. Just remember to be gentle and use a non-toxic, oil-based remover to ensure fabric is not damaged. With the above steps, you should have no problem getting rid of tar stains from your tussah silk.
